Women artists have had a rough deal in art history. This site aims to showcase the work of famous female artists, offering artist biographies, quotations and providing leads for more detailed books and articles exploring the role women have played in the development of art throughout history.
If you're interested in the academic side of things, there is some useful information about the critical theory that has influenced many of these artists and the social and historical contexts that led to the particular historic production and consumption of their work.
